So, they make sure to construct the sentence: <justification for mass slaughter>, comma, <pummeling>. You see, without the justification, it would just be pummeling, which is the everyday thing with Israel. They pummel. It’s a long-standing agreement, justified by some ancient wrong, or, property claim.
But now, they have a big giveaway! Hamas did a really gothic horrowshow on Israelis, tourist, mothers, babies, young girls. Secret (not): Hamas did this to provoke the worst Israel had to offer. The played the trump card, to decide this eternal conflict, once and for all, now.
This is a painful reckoning for the world to watch. The results will only be ugly. The results will only be ugly (repeated). These leaders are just going to kill, kill, kill, with a vehemence not really seen in other wars. There is a profound psychological dysfunction involved here, at the State level, or, perhaps cultural, or religious level. The dysfunction is that, like in a marital fight, no one is really conscious of the origin, nor of the reason, for SUCH UNMITIGATED RAGE. May G*d forgive you peoples – you Israelis and you “Palestinians”. (recall: “Palestine” has only ever been a geographic region, controlled at various times by Jews, Muslims, and Christians: everyone is a Palestinian)
Now, the attack by Hamas, in all its gratuitous violence, might actually not represent rage; rather, it is classic terrorism. Stop and review why terrorism exists: there is always an overlord world power, which cannot be overcome militarily, with any degree of might, and the underling, non-power. The underlings cannot hope to achieve a military victory, so, the resort to other techniques, like terrorism and guerilla war. These latter are purely psychological – intentionally psychological. If they are not psychologically effective, by one hair, the overlord will simply use its giant boot to stamp the underlings out. The broader jihad has staged a few of these psychological battles, notably, September 11, when a small band of rebels destroyed the emotional security of the world’s greatest power. Now, on a smaller scale, they have done the same to the Israelis – but not the people of Gaza….
Because the people of Gaza are not all the same:
Most people in the Gaza Strip are descendants of refugees who fled or were expelled from the area that became Israel after the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. Around 600,000 Gazans live in Gaza’s 8 refugee camps. Most Gazans are Sunni Muslims, and there is a Palestinian Christian minority.

So there are some Jews who will be affected by this war – almost one million. And, as the demographics show, most are young people (the fertility rate is surprisingly(?) high in this constant war zone, although it has gone from 41% down to 29% in recent years).
The point: everyone is an Arab. That’s historical, supported by the Torah and Q’ran. This is the hallmark of an emotionally dysfunctional dispute: you only hurt those you love. Filial love turns to the most infernal hate.
This is then, not a war between nations – it’s a civil war. It’s a tribal war.
